Understanding How Much Time Off Is Available

PepsiCo's time off and leave benefits enable you to spend time with your new child. There are three primary types of leave associated with adding a child to your family. You have some flexibility in the order and the way you take these leaves.

Leave Types

  • Short-Term Disability (paid leave, available only for parents giving birth)
    • Ten consecutive weeks for births on or after January 1, 2023
    • Short-Term Disability (STD) is medical leave and therefore must be taken first
  • Paid Parental Leave (paid leave, available for all parents expecting a child)
    • Six weeks for births or adoptions
    • Must be completed within six months of birth or adoption (12 months if you are adopting a child enrolled in school)
    • Can be taken all at once or broken out into weekly increments
    • Days may be taken in advance (adoption only)
  • Family/Medical Leave (unpaid leave, available for all parents)
    • Up to 12 weeks total for year
    • Runs concurrently with STD and/or Parental Leave

Maximizing Your Time

You may also be able to use vacation time to extend your leave. The amount of time you have depends on your length of service and the number of vacation days you have already used. If you choose to use vacation time, you may want to consider not using all of it at once in case your new family member needs care later in the year.

To better understand how you can use your leave options, review the examples below that illustrate two different scenarios. Keep in mind your options may vary depending on your location and other factors, and may differ from these examples:

Your Personal Support Team

Don’t worry—you won’t have to figure this out alone. You’ll have an expert to help. Your dedicated Parental Leave Concierge team member at the PepsiCo Leave and Claim Center (PLCC) will speak with you about your leave options, including how you’d like to structure your leave based on PepsiCo and state policies (if applicable). To begin the leave process, contact the PepsiCo Leave and Claim Center (PLCC) at 1-855-PEP-CALL (1-855-737-2255).

Important information about your benefits: During Short-Term Disability and Parental Leave, deductions for your contributions to your benefits and 401(k) plan will continue normally. During Family/Medical Leave (unpaid leave), deductions for your contributions to your benefits and 401(k) plan will stop temporarily. You will be direct-billed for your benefits only.

Important information about your pay: Annual Bonus and Premium Bonus payouts for eligible salaried employees may be prorated after 16 weeks of leave.

IMPORTANT: Contact the PepsiCo Leave and Claim Center (PLCC) at 1-855-PEP-CALL (1-855-737-2255) as soon as you know you plan to initiate any leave of absence.

Access to your PepsiCo email may be disabled when you're on paid or unpaid leave. Keep in mind that when you return to work, you may need to spend time working with BIS to reactivate your access. If you want to ensure your access remains active while you are on leave, talk to BIS prior to your leave. Be sure to consider any contractors whose GPIDs may need updating while you are on leave.

Short-Term Disability (Pregnancy Leave)

If you’re a parent giving birth, you may be eligible for Short-Term Disability (STD) benefits, which enable you to heal after delivery and spend time caring for your newborn, or, in some cases, deal with medical complications before birth. STD benefits provide you with 100% of your base pay for up to 10 weeks. In some cases, there is a waiting period before STD begins. Pay during the waiting period may be paid under the sick leave policy at your location.

Notify the PepsiCo Leave and Claim Center (PLCC) of your due date and your planned Pregnancy Leave early in your pregnancy. You also need to call the PLCC after the baby is born to confirm the birth date. It's important to make this call as soon as possible to avoid any delays in your STD benefits.

Parental Leave

Six weeks of paid Parental Leave is available to eligible male and female employees. To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a full-time or part-time employee eligible for benefits;
  • Have a newborn or newly adopted child (under age 18) or be in the process of adopting a child within the next month; and
  • Be employed by PepsiCo when the child is born or adopted.

The six weeks do not need to be taken consecutively. However, each week must be taken in full work week increments within six months of the birth or adoption (days may be taken in advance of an adoption).* There is one exception: you may opt to use two of these weeks, or 10 days, to ease your transition back to work and return on a three-day or four-day schedule. You get one leave per birth or adoption, not per child. (For example, if you have twins, you'll have 30 days, not 60.) Both parents can take advantage of Parental Leave if they both work for PepsiCo and meet the eligibility criteria.

Depending on your location, the state you work in may have different parental leave rules. Check with your local HR representative for details on your state's parental leave laws.

Note: If you intend to combine parental leave with any other type of paid or unpaid leave, keep in mind that Annual Bonus and Premium Bonus payouts (if eligible) will be prorated after 16 weeks of leave.

*If you are adopting a child enrolled in school, your leave may be taken within 12 months of the adoption.

If you plan to take Parental Leave, let your manager know as early as possible so they can plan for your absence. You must call the PepsiCo Leave and Claim Center (PLCC) to apply for Parental Leave. Proper documentation must be submitted and approved before your leave can begin.

Family/Medical Leave

Up to 12 weeks of unpaid Family/Medical Leave is available for parents under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). For parents giving birth, Family/Medical Leave runs concurrent with your STD/Pregnancy Leave. For all parents, your Family/Medical Leave may run concurrent with any Parental Leave or Vacation time you use in the first 12 weeks after the birth or adoption. You may be eligible for Family/Medical Leave if you've been with PepsiCo for at least 12 months and meet other criteria.

Laws in some states provide for different or additional family/medical leave. Check with your local HR representative for details on your state's family/medical leave laws.

Vacation

If eligible, you may be able to use your available vacation time to extend your paid time off before or after the birth or adoption of your child. The amount of annual vacation time varies based on your completed years of service as follows:

Years of Service Vacation Time Available1
per Calendar Year
Year of hire to 4 years 3 weeks
5 or more years 4 weeks

1Any vacation time taken prior to the birth or adoption will be deducted from your annual vacation time available.

Make sure you discuss with your manager your plans to use vacation time to extend your leave.

If you're coordinating your vacation time with another leave of absence, call the PepsiCo Leave and Claim Center (PLCC) to make sure you maintain your pay and benefits.
